about

One thing I love about the internet is the ability to legally make cover songs from the comfort of your computer. That's the only reason why I could do something like this (although the clearances are done via Distrokid).

As a "strange music" project, I have been influenced by other musicians who do similar work. These covers reflect not only my interest in these artists, but also my attempt to put my own spin on the songs I've selected.

When I was still in grade school, I became interested in The Art of Noise. Their earliest videos were something of a wonder to me, and brought into my head the idea of sampling as a musical tool. That lesson has never been lost on me. "Donna" in particular always sounded like a song that came from another planet, like some sort of alien transmission. It still holds that fascination with me to this day.

Controlled Bleeding came into my orbit much later, a little over a decade ago. Seeing as Paul Lemos and company have been making music or audio art for almost as long as I've been alive, I had much to catch up with. It was hard only picking one song of theirs to cover, but "Headcrack, Part 2" seemed to fit in with 69 Susans style. Not to mention it got me to drag out my acoustic bass and guitar. Love this music!

Finally, I am a huge gamer IRL. While I love my Persona games, one of the first RPG's I fell in love with was the original Final Fantasy on the NES. I didn't really start paying attention to the music until well into adulthood as they started incorporating pop songs into the games. But I've always liked the music I've heard in them. I didn't want to cover something from the FF series that would be obvious like the Prelude. I wanted something with which to put my own mark on, and エーテルのまどろみ or "Aetherial Slumber" seemed to fit the bill. It was in the pre-reworked version of Final Fantasy XIV. I rather like my take on it, changing it from soft and pretty to dark and probably even a little menacing.
